Sealers are commonly used to seal the porosity of thermal spray coatings, both engineering and anti-corrosion coatings. As a generalisation, a lot of corrosion coatings (like zinc or aluminium) are just sealed with commonly available paints or paint-based sealers.
Engineering coatings and high-performance corrosion coatings are often sealed with higher performing, deep penetrating sealers. In many cases, these sealers have been difficult to apply or cure or have short shelf life. Metallisation are pleased to offer a new range of sealers that are generally easy to apply, cure and have long shelf-life.
Full details of the sealer product range can be found in our sealer brochures but a general overview is provided below.
This is the most commonly applied, general use sealer in our range. It is easily applied by spray, brush or roller and is suitable for pore sizes from 0-0.1mm. Temperature resistant between -40/300ºC continuous, this sealer is touch dry in 6 minutes, machinable in 90 minutes and fully cured in 36 hours. We supply in 500ml aerosol, 1 litre and 5 litre tins.
A similar formulation to SPRAYSEAL-F but suitable for large pores from 0.1- 0.5mm, e.g. coatings with a more open structure. Application methods and temperature resistance are the same as SPRAYSEAL-F but this sealer is touch dry in 8 minutes, machinable in 2 hours and fully cured in 48 hours. We supply in 500ml aerosol, 1 litre and 5 litre tins.
For greater temperature resistance, we offer SPRAYSEAL-HT. Applied by spray, brush or roller, it is suitable for pore sizes 0-0.1mm. Temperature resistant between – 40/500ºC continuous. This sealer does not air dry but requires curing within one hour of application at 250ºC for 3 hours. We supply in 1 litre and 5 litre tins.
For maximum corrosion and solvent resistance, we offer the 2-pack Epoxy SPRAYSEAL-E. Applied by spray, brush or roller and is suitable for pore sizes from 0-0.5mm. Temperature resistant between -40/200ºC continuous, this sealer is touch dry in 20 hours, machinable in 36 hours and fully cured in 192 hours. We supply in 1 litre tins with a 100ml hardener.
Note: drying and curing times reduce with higher temperatures. Quoted times are based on 20ºC environment.
Part number details are shown in the brochures but follow the general format of:
SPRAYSEAL-X-Y, where X denotes the version (F, C, HT, E) and Y denotes the package size (1L, 5L, SP for aerosol spray).
Lead-time and Shipping
Lead-time for the sealers is typically 10-15 working days from order placement to despatch for small quantities. For the UK market, the SPRAYSEAL-F product may be available from stock.
These sealers contain solvents and are subject to dangerous goods shipping regulations. Metallisation outsource this specialist shipping function so unfortunately, these sealers can only be shipped on their own and cannot be consolidated with other Metallisation products.

For many years, Metallisation have sold another sealer product called SPRAYSEAL ‘M’ (P/N 21243). This product is still available in 250ml containers but is not part of the same family of sealers in our new product range.
